Bart and the stone that went back home

200,000 years ago a glacier broke off a piece of rock and pushed it to the Netherlands. In October 2019 Bart Eysink Smeets -finally- brought this stone back home.

The film

Together with the VPRO I made a film about the project. November 16, 2020 at 20:25 pm he will be broadcast as 2Doc on NPO2. It will then be available to view online via npo.nl.

The book

This book is the filing cabinet (in handy format) of this project. Mails to civil servants, written dialogues with local residents, photos and much more.

The amusement park

Because the project has now become larger in size and reach than Bart ever dared to dream, there was only one next logical step: an amusement park. STEENLAND it would be called, a theme park about the stone.

Here you can view the replica of the stone, take a photo with it, take a ride on the trailer, have yourself painted like the stone and much more. You reach the exit via the gift shop, where you can of course buy the book, but also much more merchandise.

A showpiece in this amusement park exhibition is the diptych of photos of the stone in Borger and the stone in Åland. Twice 42x59.4cm Hahnemühle Fine Art Print, framed together in a wooden frame.
